Admission

Preparing For Your Admission

We will send you details of your admission time along with when you will be required to stop eating and drinking prior to your admission.

It is advisable not to drink alcohol the day before your visit and, if you are a smoker, you should also cut down as much as you can, especially if you will be having a general anaesthetic.

If you feel that you may be getting a cold, sore throat or any other illness, please contact us straight away for advice, as your admission may need to be re-scheduled.

We would advise against bringing valuables, jewellery or large amounts of money into hospital with you into hospital.

We ask you to bring the following items with you:

  • Nightclothes
  • Dressing gown
  • Slippers
  • Toiletries, including toothbrush, toothpaste and a hairbrush or comb

Each of our en-suite rooms has a television and a DVD, video player and radio are available for your use upon request.

Going Home

We aim to discharge our patients by 10 am - so that you can make arrangements for a friend or family member to accompany you home. Any drugs that you require to take home with you will be explained to you.

Your consultant will give you any special instructions that you need to follow at home, and arrange any follow-up appointments or treatment. This may follow in the post.

It may be advisable that where possible you arrange for someone to look after you at home for the first day or two after your discharge.

It is important to that you follow your discharge instructions exactly as prescribed. If you are at all worried about anything the nurses are only a telephone call away and will do all that they can to help and reassure you.
